More than a meal, teppanyaki is an experience – the smell, the sizzle the incredible showmanship of skilled chefs!
From deluxe sushi (we love us some omakase!) to casual yakitori joints with free-flow sake and hole-in-the-wall ramen that hits the spot, it’s no secret that Hong Kongers love Japanese cuisine. On that note, teppanyaki – derived from “teppan” meaning iron plate and “yaki” for grilled, boiled or pan-fried – is perhaps the most dramatic style of Japanese cooking. Chefs set iron plates on fire, toss ingredients in the air and masterfully use special anmako spatulas to prepare your dish – sometimes throwing in a little magic trick too! Given the extravagance and fresh-off-the-grill succulence, teppanyaki restaurants can be pricey but we’ve vetted ones worth booking in Hong Kong.
