Cockermouth concert to raise funds for Nepal community

A concert will be held on Friday to raise funds for a Nepalese community being supported by an Eaglesfield couple.

Nick and Caroline Cowan set up the Arughat Support Fund (ASF) charity soon after the 2015 earthquake, in a bid to help with medical and educational problems following the disaster.

The couple have been frequent visitors to Nepal and worked in the hill town of Arughat in 2013, doctor Nick in the local hospital and teacher Caroline in nearby primary schools. Most of the houses, all of the schools and the hospital were destroyed in the earthquake.

A fundraising concert will be held in the United Reformed Church, Cockermouth, at 7.30pm. There will be music from the Eaglesfield Singers, Anne-Marie Kerr and Ian Wright, Susan Allison and the Gala Trio. Tickets are £10 (children free) from Billy Bowman's Music Shop in Lowther Went or on the door.

The ASF is also organising a fun Fashion Show on Wednesday, September 27, in Braithwaite Village Hall at 7pm. A large selection of autumn and winter clothes from Alexandra's of Keswick will be on show.
