How To Get To Shenzhen From Hong Kong

Looking to travel from Hong Kong to Shenzhen? The quickest and most comfortable option is the high-speed train departing from West Kowloon Railway Station, but you can also easily get to the city by bus.

Taking a bus or coach is a budget-friendly and flexible way to travel to Shenzhen. Just note that the journey can take up to three hours depending on your starting point, chosen border crossing and traffic. To take a bus to Shenzhen, you have two options:

Book A Cross-Border Express Coach

These depart regularly from major hubs in Hong Kong (Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok) directly to Shenzhen ports or city centres. Operators like Eternal East (永東直巴) and CTS (環島旅運) run these services, with prices ranging from $80 to $150. Once on board, you’ll remain on the same bus, but must get off twice to clear immigration.

Take Public Transport To The Border & Transfer

This is the most affordable method. You can take public buses like B1 from Yuen Long (to Lok Ma Chau Station) to enter the Futian Port or Bus 73K (to Lo Wu Station) for the Luohu Port. Alternatively, the MTR East Rail Line will take you directly to either port. Once you cross the border, use Shenzhen’s metro or taxis.

Getting there (and getting it all home)

Costco Shenzhen is open daily from 9am to 9pm, and many Hong Kongers can head over via tour buses or private cars arranged exclusively just for Costco runs, or by taking public transport. The fastest and most convenient method to travel to China is via the High-Speed Rail from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Shenzhen North Station, which takes under 30 minutes. Other options include the MTR (Metro) via the East Rail Line to the Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau border crossings, or a ferry from Hong Kong Sheung Wan or the airport to Shekou Port. Once in Shenzhen, use Shenzhen Metro Line 4 or Line 6 to reach Hongshan Station.

If you’re worried about how to lug everything back, look for the SF Express stall near the garage — they’ll pack and ship your haul back home, often the same or next day. And yes, their shipping limits basically don’t exist.

Sassy Tip: They only speak Mandarin, so prepare a translation app or brush up on your Chinese skills! Don’t forget to have your home address ready in Chinese.

Seasonal Steals — For seasonal essentials

Upon entering Costco, the first thing you’ll see are the seasonal items, which should give you a small taste of what’s to come. While this rotates, you can always expect daily essentials (especially in Hong Kong, where the weather is pretty consistently hot all year round!) From sunscreen and handheld fans (yes, Hong Kong daily essentials) to umbrellas in every style (again, Hong Kong essentials), Shenzhen Costco makes the perfect trip for a Hong Konger. Plus, you’ll also see year-round supplies like camping chairs and water activity gear (like goggles and swimming rings!) for your next beach day or hike!

The electronics section is surprisingly strong, with great pricing on electronics and camera bundles. From door cameras (~¥2,800) to the infamous vlogging camera, the DJI Osmo, Costco’s electronic section is not only well-stocked, but up-to-date on the latest gadgets. For those who like filming on the go, various bundles of Insta360 cameras are available starting from ¥3,000.  We also recommend checking out the Anker 100W wall charger — with three ports, it’s like an extension cable, without the trip-hazard wire!

Stock rotates quickly, so if you spot something you love, don’t wait — because chances are it won’t be there next time (but that’s just an excuse for you to go back again!)

Pantry Staples & Paper Goods — Laundry capsules and Samsonite luggage sets

When it comes to home supplies, Shenzhen Costco does not disappoint. Stocking up on household staples at Shenzhen Costco is a no-brainer — especially if you’ve got the storage space. Paper towels and toilet paper come in giant packs that’ll keep you covered for ages, while the nuts, dried fruit and supplements are sold in mega multipacks perfect for families (or serious snackers).

Their vodka is famously produced in the same distillery as Grey Goose, just bottled under the Kirkland name for a fraction of the price. The gin follows the same formula — Bombay Sapphire quality without the hefty price tag. The frozen aisle at Shenzhen Costco is absolute heaven for anyone craving American comfort food. Think giant boxes of mozzarella sticks, mac & cheese and tater tots ready to go straight from your freezer. You’ll also find frozen shrimp, Korean dumplings and noodles and perfectly sliced beef — ideal for a DIY Korean BBQ or Hotpot night at home! Plus, jumbo sizes of daily staples like yoghurt, but at incredible value (Chobani yoghurt is our fave!).

Fresh Food & Bakery Finds — Rotisserie chickens and decadent desserts

The fresh food and bakery section at Shenzhen Costco is where the real feasting begins. You’ll find party-size tiramisu, massive birthday cakes, sushi platters and the iconic rotisserie chicken (at just ¥40, it’s even better value than some Hong Kong Lunch Sets!) alongside cooked ribs and party trays that make party entertaining effortless. Seasonal bakes are a must-try too, with pistachio croissants, matcha or durian cream puffs and even a decadent durian cheesecake (if you dare!). For the savoury fans, Costco-sized prosciutto trays and hefty cheese blocks (look out for gems like Drunken Goat) are unbeatable for the price and ideal for tapas nights.

Sassy Tip: The fresh fruit is incredible, but tricky to bring back across the border, so best to enjoy it on the spot!

While Costco Shenzhen doesn’t stock medication, the pharmacy and beauty aisles are still worth a stop. You’ll be able to find supplements and protein powders in a sure supply, and every vitamin you could possibly be deficient in!

You’ll also find Asian beauty products in jumbo packs (think 1+1 deals!), plus Japanese skincare like Mentholatum Lotions for around ¥100 for four bottles and even a good helping of Korean sunscreens. For everyday essentials, they’ve also got pads and other sanitary products, although tampons aren’t part of the lineup.

Food Court Staples — Because you can’t go home without stopping at the food court

Last but definitely not least is the Costco food court, which serves up all the American classics with a few fun local twists.
