We found Rustic Eatery tucked away in Causeway Bay, and it’s so good we almost gatekept it. But we’re sharing anyway — you’re welcome!
Hong Kong can be a little too corporate at times, which makes finding a homey, unpretentious meal with soul and flavour a little difficult. But Rustic Eatery, a family-run Western restaurant, stands out by offering a quiet yet mouth-watering respite from the Causeway Bay hustle — and after our team’s visit, we can confidently say you’ll leave feeling full in both stomach and heart!

A Taste Of Home With A Latin Twist
Rustic Eatery feels like a home away from home, with a relaxed, inviting ambience that radiates the genuine warmth of the family behind it. The story begins with the Hong Konger owners, who moved to Venezuela as children. There, Chef Alex’s passion for food was ignited and led him on a journey to culinary school. The family naturally absorbed the local Venezuelan flavours, which they’ve now brought back to Hong Kong, transforming their cherished recipes into an eye-opening dining experience that blends local Venezuelan flavours with European influences. Today, Dad runs the kitchen, Mum oversees the front of house, and their son Aaron crafts desserts and handles marketing. Now that’s what you call a family-run business!

Comforting, Approachable ‘Latin-ish’ food
We love Rustic’s ‘Span-ish, Latin-ish, Modern American-ish’ cuisine — essentially, comforting, home-style dishes with a South-American twist. Our favourite part? Here, everything is made from scratch, from the beef stock for the in-house French Onion Soup to the sauces that elevate the grilled meats. The Rustic Eatery family calls their cooking “true to the heart and a labour of love,” and we could really taste it!

Our Favourite Dishes & Must-Tries
A standout dish is the Pulpo a la Gallega ($178), featuring tender, lightly charred octopus with a perfectly balanced smokiness. Equally impressive is the Scallop Crudo ($178), a refreshing plate elevated by a vibrant passionfruit vinaigrette that had us going back for bite after bite. But the true star of the show was the deceptively simple Roast Chicken ($188). Stout Marinated for 48 hours, it achieved an astonishing depth of flavour that left us seriously captivated. Just be sure to save room for the Carrot Cake Pudding ($88), a moreish homemade dessert with orange caramel sauce and a hint of rum. With its generous portions, fair pricing and meticulous attention to detail, Rustic Eatery delivers consistently excellent, flavour-forward plates.
Sassy Tip: Don’t miss its Happy Hour (daily from 3pm to 8pm), where you can enjoy 50% off all alcoholic beverages, including bottles of wine! (No minimum spend. Excludes select public holidays.)
