The Location
Hidden away in a nondescript building in the midst of bustling Tsim Sha Tsui, we had no idea what to expect. After passing the dimly lit staircase and stepping into the restaurant, our jaws dropped at the sight of the striking, contemporary space. Talk about WOW factor — we were blown away! Buzzing even on a Wednesday night, “fun” truly is the best way to describe the vibrant decor and lively vibe, with colourful, spectacular dishes to match. Not to mention, a great spot for the ‘gram!

What We Ate
One of the most unique things about Kailash Parbat is its booth dedicated to authentic Indian street food. Our favourites were the Pani Puri, fried hollowed dough balls bursting with the explosive tang of herbed boiled potatoes, spicy water and a sweet tamarind sauce. There are also interesting regional delicacies, namely the Chinese Bhel, an Indo-Chinese street food comprised of fried noodles and stir-fried vegetables, which tastes like the fusion snack its name suggests.

House specials (since 1952 to be precise, so the menu tells us!) included the Chole Bhatura, a soft, fluffy bread the size of your head (expect hot steam as you rip it open, which adds to its impressiveness) to mop up the moreish chickpea curry. An absolute must order. Another signature is the Pav Bhaji, a medley of mashed vegetables served with soft buttered dinner rolls, onions and lemon wedges — a winning combo in our opinon.

Should you prefer old favourites, the Dal Makhani is a safe bet. The reason it’s the most popular lentil dish from North India is likely to be the rich deliciousness of the butter and cream used to enrich the kidney beans, which are simmered overnight. Soak up the bold flavour with the Jeera Hari Mirch Lacha Paratha, whole wheat bread topped generously with cumin and green chili powder, a sensory journey in its own right.

Final Thoughts
Kailash Parbat is definitely not your typical Indian restaurant. There were so many dishes we’d never heard of before, let alone tried, such as an Indian Burger and a Bombay styled grilled sandwich with mash potato, cucumber, tomato, onion, cheese with spicy chutney and crispy noodles! Everything was beautifully presented with punchy flavours to match. Best of all, we didn’t leave feel uncomfortably stuffed as much of the fare was light (and healthy, easily catering to vegetarians and vegans). Extremely affordable, the meal offered great value in terms of portion size and quality. We’ll definitely be back.
Sassy Tip: Go with a large group so you can try more dishes! Trust us, the menu looks so good you’ll want to order everything.
